So I bought this foundation expecting it to be light weight foundation with medium coverage. I don’t have any scars or blemishes, by god’s grace , but I need an even skin tone. I was happy buying this as it was from my favorite skin care brand. So the exceptions were quite high. The moment I received it, I like the packing , the flowery box and a sturdy glass bottle . But once I opened it, the foundation was just there. I mean there with NO PUMP or pipette to dispense it. I don’t know what the makers think before presenting such packaging to the market. It is frustrating, difficult, unhygienic and a complete time waste every morning. You really need to have some skills in order to get it out of the bottle.
So lets move on to the actual product, the foundation. After the pump disappointment, the creamy thick liquid looked promising. So I applied it with my real techniques stippling brush, which I use for most of my foundations. The foundation went on smoothly. But then there was no coverage, my skin looked dewy and unevenness was still there. So I applied a second coat. Everything remained the same, except it was a little high on coverage. Anyways, I completed my makeup and thought of giving it a try for a full day. So, In my usual office day, My face started looking oily in a matter of two hours only. My nose was very greasy and I noticed more prominent fine lines. I had to use blotting paper again and again throughout the day.
So, All I can say is that my first experience with this foundation didn’t go the way I expected it to be.
Now, After many hits and trials with it, I have got my way of using it. I always use a mattifying primer underneath it, either porefessional by benefit or Ever matte poreless by becca. Then it is really important to set this foundation with a good mattifying powder. I use Laura Mercier shine control pressed setting powder or De-Slick Mattifying Powder.
But even after all this, I tend to give it a miss whenever I am expecting a long day out.
- Clinique has a great shade range so finding your suitable shade is quite easy.
- It is lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy even after two coats.
- It gives a beautiful natural, healthy, semi dewy finish that can be MATTIFIED (not for ever skin type). It can solve textural issues of the skin.
- It is long-lasting and the wear time is decent between 5-7 hrs. However some touchups are needed.
- It doesn’t oxide on the skin and doesn’t give a grayish hue making you look dark.
- It is Non-comodegenic. It doesn’t have oil, fragrance, parabens which makes it apt for sensitive or acne prone skin.
- The coverage is light medium with some redness still peeping through. It can be fixed with a powder or concealer.
- It settles into fine lines and does cling to dry patches on the face.
- Although it claims of having no oil added to the foundation, it does make the face oily after few hours of application and you have to keep using the blotting paper.
- It doesn’t come with a dispensing pump (Although pump can be bought separately, but why to spend even an extra penny when you have bought a high-end foundation)
- It can transfer to clothes or phone, if not set properly.
My other foundation reviews
So my final word is that I love Clinique for their skin care products. They understand your skin. But Clinique is not my brand especially when it comes to make up products. Even the online or YouTube community doesn’t talk much about this foundation. And now I know the reason, After trying almost every base underneath this foundation, I still struggle to make it look flawless. Although it glides easily and is buildable ,but expecting coverage and oil control from is it is something to laugh about.
To all my oily girls, try to avoid this foundation, if you are not using a good mattifying primer underneath. It can make you look cakey, greasy within hours.
For all other pretty ladies with dry or combination skin, this foundation can only be a good deal if your face doesn’t have much to hide and you are just looking to apply something for evenness and dewy finish.
So here I conclude my today’s review, I hope you like it.
Thanks a ton!
