Hi everyone, I remember eating soaked and peeled almonds standing at the bus stop waiting for my school bus. I loved them back then and I love them more now when I know their benefits. I can eat almonds anytime of the day with almost anything. I love them in pudding, cake, biscuits and above all in chocolate. Almonds are not only tasty but are really good for our overall well-being and so is the ALMOND OIL.

Hence this article is going to be about my love for this wonderful oil and its benefits. It has lot many therapeutic and cosmetic uses that it is no less than a best friend. So, lets know a little more about it.

Types of Almond Oil

They are of two types – Bitter and Sweet.

The Bitter almond oil is extracted from bitter almonds. They contain amygdalin that turns into toxic hydrocyanic acid after processing. Although it has medicinal properties, but it is applied only on the body and not ingested.

The Sweet almond oil is extracted from edible almonds. This is the oil that is used in homes for beauty, health and even in kitchen.

Nearly half of a dried almond’s weight is oil. Ripened almonds are cold pressed to extract the oil. As we have made ourselves aware of the process of its extraction, So, lets discuss the awesome benefits of this oh so awesome oil!


Great Moisturizer


It is a great moisturizer because of its quickly penetrating properties. It nourishes the skin making it smoother and softer. It is naturally endowed with highly potent Vitamin E.  It has a slightly nutty smell which is not at all overpowering. It can be applied directly on face, hair and body or can be mixed with some essential oils to get more benefits. Regular Massage with it also promotes blood circulation preventing scars and stretch marks.

Baby Massage Oil


One of the mildest and hypoallergenic oils around is the Almond Oil. Its penetration and absorption qualities make it an ideal oil for baby massage. It can be used both before and after the bath on baby’s soft skin. Its a well known fact that calcium is extremely vital for the development and strengthening of bones. Massaging baby’s joints with this oil improves blood circulation and aids in the absorption of calcium because of its Vitamin D content.

To use it on infants, warm it to body temperature and then massage it and then leave it on until it is fully absorbed in the skin.

As stated earlier, it can be used as moisturizer to the face. But if you are looking for wrinkle free and toned face, this oil comes handy for face massage. It is neither too thick nor too runny, which makes it ideal for a gliding face massage oil. This handy beauty elixir can be mixed with other essential oils to get a spa like experience.

For dark eye circles


Do you like Pandas? Yes? Do you want to look like them? I hope the answer is NO! We may want panda like skin colour, but those dark eyes? No way! It’s easy to take refuge in concealers, but isn’t it wise to find a natural solution?

So if you suffer from dark circles, apply almond oil every night before going to the bed and you’ll see difference in your dark circles in about two to three weeks.

For Skin Discoloration


More than soothing dry skin, almond oil can improve complexion and skin tone. It is highly emollient, which means it helps to balance the absorption of moisture and water loss. It can also help in fading skin scars.

For Sun Tanning


It is not a well known fact about almond oil that it is a natural sunscreen. It shields the skin from sun’s harmful rays. These rays can cause tanning and inflammation. To relieve the inflamed skin immediately, apply almond oil. In order to get rid of sun tan, Use a pack of almond oil, honey and lemon juice.

To Relieve skin rashes,Eczema & Psoriasis


Dryness of skin and itching is caused by some triggers either internal or external. Some of these issues are chronic and scratching can worsen them. So in order to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, use this mild oil. It also keeps skin infections at bay. It can also be mixed with tea tree oil for extra benefits.

Fine lines and Ageing


Wrinkles and fine lines are an inevitable part of natural aging process, but pre mature aging and fine lines are because of thinning of skin and unevenness in the collagen padding underneath. Apart from moisturizing the skin, it can also help prevent the collagen damage as it has the highly potent Vitamin E and other amino acids. They help in reversing and preventing the wrinkles and other signs of aging. One of the main reason of collagen deterioration is oxidative stress, which can be slowed down with regular use of almond oil.

For chapped and dark lips


Among all different reasons for chapped & dark lips, dehydration and roughness are the most common. Almond Oil is known to have skin lightening and moisturizing properties. For chapped lips, Use it like you would use your lip balm. For discoloured skin and lips, apply it every night before going to the bed. Almond oil gets easily absorbed in the skin which makes it ideal for hand and feet. Use it on your hands at night as it smells soothing and repairs rough skin and nail cuticles.It can be used on feet too. Massage your feet well with it and then wear breathable socks before sleeping. It is really light and non greasy but can heal cracked heals due to zinc content present in it.

A simple yet effective way of cleansing the skin deeply is an almond oil scrub with Gram Flour, Almond Oil, Milk.It not only removes dead skin cells and impurities but also gives a fair and glowing skin.

The nasty face spoilers can be treated with this wonder oil. Almond Oil is a light oil with high penetrating properties. It can cleanse the skin by penetrating deep within and can remove dirt and unwanted debris. This results in a clean skin with no acne and blackheads. It is full of Vitamin A and is antibacterial in nature, so may even reduce the reoccurrence of acne and pimples.

Makeup Remover


Tired of using pricey cleanser to remove makeup? Try Almond Oil instead! It is light in nature, so it can be safely used on sensitive skin and even around the eyes. Apply it on your face and massage for 2-3 minutes and let it work on that stubborn water proof mascara. Then wipe it off using a damp or dry cotton ball.

Healthy and Long Hair


Almond Oil is rich in Biotin or Vitamin B-7 which is a base of so many hair and nail supplements these days. With its regular use, the hair texture can be improved. As far as long hair are concerned, they need strong roots. Almond oil is a rich source of magnesium as well, which prevents hair fall. Apply almond oil on your scalp and then treat them with steam using a hot water soaked towel for 10-15 mins. It’ll improve hair texture and reduce hair fall.

Dandruff free hair


Because of Almond Oil’s anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, it is an ideal oil for treating dandruff and other scalp infections. As mentioned earlier, it has deep penetrating properties, so it goes down the hair roots and cleanses the hair follicles and makes the scalp hydrated. With regular use of this oil mixed with a drop of tea tree oil, it can remove the dandruff causing yeast from the scalp.

Tames frizz and Roughness


Almond Oil is a good emollient which balances the water and oil absorption. This quality helps in taming the fly aways and frizzy hair. Apply a small amount of almond oil to towel dried hair to reduce frizz and roughness.

As stated earlier, Almond Oil is rich in many minerals like magnesium and calcium. Another important mineral present in it is zinc which is proven to treat hair thinning. Use warm almond oil every night on your scalp and let it sit overnight. And wash it off in the morning with your regular shampoo and conditioner.

If you want to avoid chemical leave in conditioners, Almond Oil comes to the rescue. Just as you would apply any leave-in, apply almond oil to towel dried hair. It not only keeps the hair soft and conditioned but also act as a shine serum.

Although its more of a face related concern, but eye lashes are no different from hair. As mentioned earlier, Almond oil is rich in necessary minerals for hair growth. But applying this oil to your lashes can be tricky. Use an old mascara wand or buy a new one and then apply the oil the way you would apply the mascara. It may take a little time to see the results but it is surely going to help.


Relieves muscle pain


One of the common aromatherapy oils to relieve pain and stress in muscles is Almond Oil. Warm the oil until it is nearly hot to touch. Apply this to the aching muscles with the help of a towel or a cloth. Cover the affected area with the same hot towel for 30-40 minutes. This hot oil treatment leaves joints and muscles relaxed and painfree.

Almond oil is loaded with monounsaturated fatty acids. These fats boost heart health and prevent cardiovascular diseases . Sweet almond oil is rich in folic acids, unsaturated fats, protein, and potassium – all these have been proven to be beneficial to cardiac health.

Relieves constipation and aids digestion


Almond oil acts as a powerful laxative.It can loosen stools resulting in better bowel movement. Just drinking few drops of it with warm water ensures proper stomach cleansing. Consuming almonds regularly even prevents the risk of colon cancer.

Help build stronger bones


Almond Oil is rich in Vitamin D which helps in better absorption of calcium in the body. And calcium is very much needed for strong bones,teeth and nails. So applying it on the body or using it in edible form either in cooking or consuming it with warm milk or salads can help in building stronger bones.

Strengthens brain power


Whether it is about memorizing lengthy answers for exams or where you have kept your spectacles when you are old, it all depends on a healthy nervous system. In order to increase your memorizing power, eat almonds daily or a better way is to drink almond oil. I mean it literally!

Add a teaspoonful of almond oil to a glass of milk and drink before sleeping. Almond oil is decked with omega 3 fatty acids and potassium which is going to make your brain young and active.

Regulates Cholesterol and Blood Pressure levels


Regular consumption of almond oil helps in increasing HDL (good cholesterol) and lowering LDL (bad cholesterol). It  allows oxygen and nutrients to flow freely through your blood promoting good heart health.

High levels of blood pressure are often caused by high levels of sodium in diet. Almonds are naturally low in sodium content. Also they are rich in potassium which keeps a check on blood pressure.

Long nails are flirtatious but managing them can be a big deal. In order to keep them healthy and strong, massage them regularly with almond oil. The zinc content in almond oil doesn’t only make them less brittle but also strengthen and hydrate them.

Aids Weight Loss


Although according to the diet myth, fats are not good for someone on weight loss spree. But Almond Oil is rich in monounsaturated fats that speeds up metabolism, eventually leading to weight loss. Just add few drops of almond oil to a glass of warm milk and you’ll be on the right weight loss track!

Caution Note:

Before you start the application or consumption of Almond Oil:

  • Consult a nutritionist or a physician before you consume Almond oil.
  • As we discussed the two different types of almond Oil. So, make sure to pick sweet almond oil only. The bitter one is toxic.
  • Almond Oil is rich in Vitamin E. But excessive consumption may lead to Vitamin E overdose, which can cause diarrhea, blurred vision, and dizziness
  • If you haven’t used it earlier, use it in a lesser quantity to check your tolerance level or allergic reactions.
