Hi everyone, I remember eating soaked and peeled almonds standing at the bus stop waiting for my school bus. I loved them back then and I love them more now when I know their benefits. I can eat almonds anytime of the day with almost anything. I love them in pudding, cake, biscuits and above all in chocolate. Almonds are not only tasty but are really good for our overall well-being and so is the ALMOND OIL.
Hence this article is going to be about my love for this wonderful oil and its benefits. It has lot many therapeutic and cosmetic uses that it is no less than a best friend. So, lets know a little more about it.

Types of Almond Oil
They are of two types – Bitter and Sweet.
The Bitter almond oil is extracted from bitter almonds. They contain amygdalin that turns into toxic hydrocyanic acid after processing. Although it has medicinal properties, but it is applied only on the body and not ingested.
The Sweet almond oil is extracted from edible almonds. This is the oil that is used in homes for beauty, health and even in kitchen.
Nearly half of a dried almond’s weight is oil. Ripened almonds are cold pressed to extract the oil. As we have made ourselves aware of the process of its extraction, So, lets discuss the awesome benefits of this oh so awesome oil!
It is a great moisturizer because of its quickly penetrating properties. It nourishes the skin making it smoother and softer. It is naturally endowed with highly potent Vitamin E. It has a slightly nutty smell which is not at all overpowering. It can be applied directly on face, hair and body or can be mixed with some essential oils to get more benefits. Regular Massage with it also promotes blood circulation preventing scars and stretch marks.
Baby Massage Oil
One of the mildest and hypoallergenic oils around is the Almond Oil. Its penetration and absorption qualities make it an ideal oil for baby massage. It can be used both before and after the bath on baby’s soft skin. Its a well known fact that calcium is extremely vital for the development and strengthening of bones. Massaging baby’s joints with this oil improves blood circulation and aids in the absorption of calcium because of its Vitamin D content.
To use it on infants, warm it to body temperature and then massage it and then leave it on until it is fully absorbed in the skin.

So if you suffer from dark circles, apply almond oil every night before going to the bed and you’ll see difference in your dark circles in about two to three weeks.
For Skin Discoloration
More than soothing dry skin, almond oil can improve complexion and skin tone. It is highly emollient, which means it helps to balance the absorption of moisture and water loss. It can also help in fading skin scars.
For Sun Tanning
It is not a well known fact about almond oil that it is a natural sunscreen. It shields the skin from sun’s harmful rays. These rays can cause tanning and inflammation. So in order to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, use this mild oil. It also keeps skin infections at bay. It can also be mixed with tea tree oil for extra benefits.
Fine lines and Ageing
Wrinkles and fine lines are an inevitable part of natural aging process, but pre mature aging and fine lines are because of thinning of skin and unevenness in the collagen padding underneath. Almond Oil is rich in Biotin or Vitamin B-7 which is a base of so many hair and nail supplements these days. With its regular use, the hair texture can be improved. As far as long hair are concerned, they need strong roots. Almond oil is a rich source of magnesium as well, which prevents hair fall. Apply almond oil on your scalp and then treat them with steam using a hot water soaked towel for 10-15 mins. It’ll improve hair texture and reduce hair fall.
Dandruff free hair
Because of Almond Oil’s anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, it is an ideal oil for treating dandruff and other scalp infections. As mentioned earlier, it has deep penetrating properties, so it goes down the hair roots and cleanses the hair follicles and makes the scalp hydrated. With regular use of this oil mixed with a drop of tea tree oil, it can remove the dandruff causing yeast from the scalp.

Almond Oil is a good emollient which balances the water and oil absorption. This quality helps in taming the fly aways and frizzy hair. Apply a small amount of almond oil to towel dried hair to reduce frizz and roughness.

Apply this to the aching muscles with the help of a towel or a cloth. Cover the affected area with the same hot towel for 30-40 minutes. - As we discussed the two different types of almond Oil. So, make sure to pick sweet almond oil only. The bitter one is toxic.
- Almond Oil is rich in Vitamin E. But excessive consumption may lead to Vitamin E overdose, which can cause diarrhea, blurred vision, and dizziness
- If you haven’t used it earlier, use it in a lesser quantity to check your tolerance level or allergic reactions.
